Message From The President – November, 2019

Dear ASSP Colleagues,

For most of us, safety is more than just a job that we go to each working day. If we hold safety as a value that affects how we think and act, we become 24/7 ambassadors for a better way to work and live. With that, we are also challenged to set positive examples we hope others will follow. Which brings me to Danny Callies who, along with George Pierce (retired, Alabama ABC), has been reaching out employers and organizations to raise awareness of workplace safety and health rights in general industry, construction, and mining. “If you see something, say something”, is their message.

During the week of November 11-15, they are encouraging employers to hold a stand down meeting to talk about workplace safety rights. They have also been reaching out to city and county officials to talk with contractors at the time building permits are issued and review applicable safety regulations (fall protection, shoring, electrical, flagging, etc.).

We energetically applaud Danny and George for setting the example of what (in Danny’s words) “Two Old Safety Guys and a Mission” can accomplish.

To all my ASSP colleagues, keep up the great works you do. Like Danny and George, let’s look for new ways to reach out and connect with people who need to hear our messages. In truth, any time is a great time to have those critical conversations about working and living safely.
